Marigold reaching off Osea Island

Welcome to Marigold Charters – Blackwater sailing adventures!

We offer a variety of day charters sailing out of Maldon on the river Blackwater.

Since Marigold does not have an engine we leave on the morning tide and return on the evening tide. Days are approximately 10 to 12 hours, wind dependent.

Marigold is kept on a mooring off the Promenade Park and is safely reached by our 20 foot motor launch ‘Venture’.

Guests are invited to get involved with the sailing and handling of the boat as much or as little as they want. Whether helping us sail or just sitting back and watching the world go by, we aim to give you a great days adventure out on the water. There is generally plenty of bird life, occasionally seals and porpoises, and lots of other classic craft such as Thames Barges to look at.

Should guests wish to experience working the boat whilst fishing under sail, Marigold is equipped with various trawls, dredges, drift and gill nets, a variety of techniques can be tried depending on time of year.

It is not necessary to have any previous sailing or boating experience but guests should be reasonably fit in order to climb aboard and move around safely on deck.

Shorter tide sails of which you will spend 3 to 4 hours on board are also available on spring tides weather permitting.
